Hosting these events requires volunteers (especially the slalom) so please help us by Volunteering. As with the previous competition day, we will meet 30 minutes earlier. All athletes will ski with their coaches after the race giving our volunteers time to get back to pick up their athletes so that everyone can go to lunch at the same time. Greetings BBSEF Home Teams,

It was another gorgeous sunny weekend at the top of the twisty turny character-building Bogus Basin Road.

We switched from the longer radius GS turns to short quick SL radius turns as we prepare for the 2nd Coaches Cup Event. We will continue with slalom training on LISTEN TO YOUR MOM. Additionally, we have plans to start Gelande Jumping on the Jump Hill below the Sleepy Hollow cat track to Lazy Mary and Bear Paw. Our Skills Quest focus is Basic Outside Ski Turns. Athletes lift the inside ski during the turn. This will progress into Outside Ski Turns where the entire turn is complete on the outside ski and eventually into skiing on one ski only.

Homework isn’t just for school and this homework is definitely more fun! Have your athlete take you for a run or two. Ask them to demonstrate something they’ve been working on such as lifting one ski.

Awards were presented by the coaches during group pictures. Please be on the lookout for an email from Kelly with a link to the team pictures.

See you on the slopes!

Greetings BBSEF Home Teams,
Another beautiful weekend with sunny blue skies although driving the thick inversion layer on Sunday was pretty hairy.

This past weekend was the first Coaches Cup event of the season. Thank you, volunteers! We cannot put on these events without you.

Until the current covid surge declines awards will be presented by coaches at the following practice. Results from the GS and Big Mountain events were emailed out earlier in the week.

We are transitioning into Slalom (SL) training as we prepare for the next Coaches Cup. The Freeski focus this weekend is hockey stops.  We will meet at our regular time of 9:25 am.

How can you help your athlete’s progression? Great question, take them skiing outside of training. Want to do more? Ask them to demonstrate an edge set. It can be a slide slip with a crisp edge set, aka hockey stops, or a straight run into a hockey stop. Make sure to perform the hockey stop to the left and the right. Please feel free to ask me or your coach for ideas.

See you on the slopes!

Hello Home Teams,

Thank you to all of this weekend's volunteers!  We can't host these events without your support.

Sunday families, a friendly reminder we start earlier on event days. Please meet the coaches at 9:00 am.  The day will also end earlier at 2:45 pm.

This weekend we are handing out survival whistles to our Home Teams.  While we hope they are never needed, they could help your child signal for help in an emergency. These whistles were generously donated by a home team family (thank you for your thoughtfulness.)

Awards from this weekend's events will be given to the coaches next weekend, for them to present to the athletes.

See you on the Slopes!

Greetings BBSEF Home Teams,

This weekend Mitey Mite and Devo teams will practice Giant Slalom on Sleepy connector as we continue to prepare for the Coaches Cup GS. We will also focus on core fundamentals including athletic stance & balance.

All Mountain/Snowboard teams will practice for next weekend's Bear Paw Bash, a big mountain-style event.

Looking for something to do while skiing with your athlete outside of practice? Ask them to lift one ski and count to 5 before putting it down, repeat with the other ski. Look for the ski to be parallel to the run while they show balance and control. Start on cat tracks as they progress, have them try it between turns on steeper terrain.

Just a reminder key meeting times at the flags are; 9:30 am - the start of the morning session, 12:00 pm - the start of lunch, 12:45 pm - the start of the afternoon session, and 3:15 pm - end of the training day.

Saturday will likely be very busy again with the school race program with long lift lines on Bitterroot chair #5.

See you on the slopes!

Hello Coaches,

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a fun and safe holiday season.

Like most organizations, BBSEF is short on coaches.  All coaches are welcome/encouraged to coach both Saturday and Sunday whenever possible and this weekend is no exception.

This weekend our home teams will be participating in US Ski and Snowboard Skills Quest assessment in the morning.  Athletes will be graded in 4 exercises from phase 1 designed to showcase the fundamentals of skiing. The 4 exercises are Hockey Stops, Steps and Jumps, Basic Outside Ski Turns and Freeski Parallel Turns.

In addition, we will have a Giant Slalom (GS) course set on Sleepy Connector which is where we will hold our first Coaches Cup race.

Just a reminder of key meeting times:

  • Coaches safety meeting 9:00 am.
  • Meet athletes at  9:25 am - the start of the morning session,
  • Lunch 12:00 pm -12:45 pm
  • 12:45 pm start of the afternoon session
  • 3:15 pm - end of the day.

Please note: Saturday is expected to be very busy! This is the first day of the school race program and 1-2 inches of snow is forecast for Friday night.  Make sure you get on the road early Saturday morning.

BBSEF is hiring please share this link if you know someone who may be interested in coaching and is able to ski at an advanced level.
